TransOntario is a volunteer-run digital community dedicated to providing trans, non-binary, and Two-Spirit people of all stripes in Ontario a safe space to exist, connect, and thrive. We believe that no one should have to navigate the complexities of the trans experience alone.
Who We Are
We are a diverse group of trans folk from across the province; from the GTA to the North, and everywhere in between. Our community spans generations, bringing together the lived experiences of trans elders and the energy of those just beginning their journeys.
We are not a crisis centre or a clinical service; we are a peer-support network. We believe in the power of community care and the radical act of trans people looking out for one another.
Our Purpose
The mission of TransOntario is to foster an environment where gender-diverse people can exist without the need to explain or defend their identities. Our community is built on three pillars:
- Community: Combating the isolation often felt by trans individuals by providing spaces for both serious discussion and casual connection.
- Support: Offering a platform for members to navigate the emotional and social complexities of transition, relationships, and daily life.
- Resources: Centralizing information on healthcare, legal documentation, and local organizations to help our members navigate transitioning in Ontario.
Our Values
To maintain our community as a true safe space, we operate under the following principles:
- Intersectionality: We recognize that our identities do not exist in a vacuum. We strive to be an inclusive space that honours the intersections of race, disability, and neurodivergence.
- Safety & Moderation: We maintain a strictly moderated environment to protect our members from the transphobia found in the wider digital world.
- Affirmation: We believe that gender identity and gender presentation are personal and valid. We affirm all non-binary and binary trans identities, regardless of surgical or medical status.
